    Welcome News

As you may have noticed, we are now a Breedlove dealer and have some very special Mark One electrics on the way.

The next bit of exciting news is that we are now dealers for Artinger Guitars as well. Our whole approach to choosing what we sell is to represent cutting edge luthiers with varied styles and interesting electronics. Matt's guitars fit perfectly into our line-up. Our first two Artingers should arrive in November and December. Stay tuned.

    Pricing

Most of the luthiers we deal with ask or require that we use their minimum advertised prices (MAP). We agree wholeheartedly with this approach but sometimes for one reason or another we have guitars or other items that we can offer for less. It always pays to give us a call!

What You Need to Know About Handmade Guitars:

Recently I watched a TV tour of the Gibson factory in Memphis. It became instantly clear to me that I was on the right track with Terra Guitars. There really is a difference in the way guitars are made at Gibson compared to the way they are made by independent luthiers.

Watching the TV show, I saw a factory atmosphere where quotas are clearly in place. Workers were efficient and competent - and seemed to be in a bit of a hurry. There was no pausing to look twice, or taking a moment to get an opinion from a co-worker. No interruptions in the assembly line process, each instrument comes together like every one before it.

Nothing wrong with that. Gibson makes good guitars. But if you watch the process in a luthier's shop, you see a difference. Granted, most independent luthiers also use machines to one degree or another. The difference becomes apparent as you watch the personal attention that a luthier puts into each stage of the process, from design through construction.

Luthiers build guitars because they love building guitars, and every instrument grows from a personal focus. The woods have been carefully considered; the finish is discussed and compared; the sound components are weighed and selected. There are LOTS of interruptions in the process, and all of them contribute to the value of each individual instrument.

This difference - factory vs. craftsman - might not matter to you. But if it does, you will appreciate the fine, one-of-a-kind instruments that come from the shops of luthiers like Roger or Rick, Joe, Scott, Kim or Vincent.

At Terra Guitars we spend a considerable amount of time discussing interesting combinations of woods, appointments, finishes and electronics with our luthiers prior to ordering each instrument. We think this attention to detail makes a difference in the collection you will find here, and in your ultimate pleasure in your purchase.

One last note: We know you might have your own unique specification for a guitar from one of our luthiers and not find it in our inventory. If that's the case, we would love to take your custom order. You will find our prices to be extremely competitive and our service beyond compare. Call us to find out if that makes sense for you.
