Born James Marshall Hendrix, Jimi Hendrix was an American rock guitar player who changed the music industry. He is often thought of as one of the most influential electric guitar players of all time, which is impressive as he was only famous for about four years before passing away. Although born in Seattle he became most popular in England, he moved there after a brief musical career in Tennessee. He quickly rose to fame and headlined the infamous Woodstock festival in 1969. Sadly, he died an accidental death in 1970 at the age of 27, but not without leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest guitar players of all time
Born January 9, 1944 in England, Jimmy Page reached international fame as the guitarist for Led Zeppelin. By the mid 1960’s he was one of the youngest and most sought-after guitarist in England. Rolling Stone Magazine described him as “the pontiff of power rifting” as he truly is one of the most gifted guitar players. His twice being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is credit to his success.
Mark Knopfler is an English singer-songwriter, producer, and overall fantastic guitarist. Most well known as the lead guitarist and singer of the rock band Dire Straits, he is a highly awarded guitar player and talented individual. He has produced and performed with some of the world’s greatest musicians as well as written and scored theme songs for several motion pictures. His musical career is vast and varied proving he is not only a great guitar player but a man of great talent.
Another British born guitar player and musician, Brian May is a multi-talented musician. Not only is he a singer, songwriter and guitar player he is also an astrophysicist. He is most well known as the lead guitar player of one of the greatest bands of all time, Queen. Shortly after forming the band they quickly rose to success all around the world, thanks to the groups combined talent and skill in all things musical. His guitar playing is known all around the world for its distinctive sound and impressive layering. And he hasn’t slowed down, he continues to study astrophysics and of course always plays the guitar.There is no doubt many more amazing, talented and dedicated guitar players all around the world, this list just barely scratches the surface.
